Kayla Hagerty’s father, Ian, was incarcerated for most of her childhood. When he completed his sentence, Ian was released in British Columbia, nowhere near his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario. In March 2020, Kayla received news her father died of an overdose.

In this film, My Dad, Ian, Kayla describes how Canada's criminal justice system disrupts critical support networks, isolates people from community, and only extends cyclical harm within and beyond punitive institutions.
